Yay finally an indie song! There are so many things I love about this song. First, it starts off with an electric guitar, making it seem like it’s going to be an electro or house song, but it quickly reaches a turning point to what seems like African drums and vocals echoing each other. Then, bongo drums are added in that create a kind of tropical/island-y vibe, also illustrating a clear picture of perhaps a house made of leaves inside a tropical forest and coconuts on palm trees. Sometimes, I even imagine that the drum beat is played on coconuts itself. The song is somewhat chaotic with vocals running everywhere clashing and fusing with the strumming of an acoustic guitar and exotic drum playing in the background. I find the vocal part especially interesting. It kind of sounds like the vocalist has something in his throat and his making an “Ah” sound while the sound is echoed repeatedly. I also love how the vocalist repeatedly slurs up and down the scale, possibly creating an image of a flowing stream. Finally, my favorite part of the song is probably the ending. Everything gradually calms down and comes to an end with the vocalist starting to sing about cats and repeatedly going “meow kitties” with cats purring in the background even though it is completely irrelevant to a “leaf house”. It’s completely random, but somehow fits perfectly.

I’m not really a fan of pure jazz, but I absolutely love this song. It’s so classy and mellow at the same time and it reminds me of the type of song you would listen to on a rainy Saturday evening while sipping tea and reading a book and maybe even having some French macaroons on the side. I love the drum set in the background, especially. It’s so subtle that you almost can’t hear it at all, but you can hear it enough to feel the jazzy beat it’s going to. It’s played with brush drumsticks, giving it a softer and more mellow mood to it. I love the piano and the plucking of the bass jiving together as well. Even though jazz isn’t supposed to have a specific rhythm to it, you can hear the chorus clearly. The chorus is my favorite part because I love how one note jumps to another and lingers for a while and then Bill Evans puts in a chromatic rhythm to end the phrase smoothly. I first heard this in Madvillain’s song “Raid” and even though it was just an instrumental in the song and was more upbeat to fit Madvillain’s rapping style, Nardis is brilliant just by itself.

I just happened to find this song on my Soundcloud streaming and I absolutely love it. It starts off with kind of a fat beat, but instead, you hear the saxophone playing the fat beat instead of a drum. You hear the fat beat throughout the song as well as a trill melody the trumpets play in the background. In general, there are many different melodies playing separately in the background by different wind instruments, however, when you put them all together, they harmonize and match up perfectly. It is incredibly hard to put this song in a specific genre because it is so diverse. It’s so out of the blue and you never really expect this kind of song coming together. It has a kind of R&B vibe to it, but the artists manages to twist and alter it in a way to put it in a genre and style of its own.

I’m not exactly crazy about Theophilus London, but this song definitely blew me away. It is incredibly unique and I don’t think I’ve heard any song quite like it. The beginning of the song kind of sounds like Toro y Moi, who I am an extremely big fan of. I was surprised to see that this song was actually produced by Theophilus London because it sounds kind of indie in certain ways. i love how it kind of starts up kind of electronic, trill, and ambient at the same time. Then, it slowly transitions into something different with trumpet sounds blaring and then goes back to the electronic, trill, and ambient fusion throughout the song. The song itself is called “Rio” which means river in Spanish. While listening to this song, I somehow picture groovy flamingos and colorful birds doing tribal dances by a river on a tropical island. This song generally gives off groovy vibes, but it is also chill enough for someone to play it while relaxing at a beach. It reminds me of Hawaii, tropical weather, palm trees, and summer, and definitely gives a nice “wavy” feeling that makes me want to relax and get up and dance at the same time.
